Maison Roche de Bellene "Bonnes Mares" Grand Cru Burgundy 2010
From the esteemed Nicolas Potel, who had already sold a company bearing his own name, but then went on to create a new wine trading company: Maison Roche de Bellene. Using his contacts made over decades, Roche de Bellene has access to some of the best vineyards in Burgundy.
100% Pinot Noir, in a richer, fuller-bodied style common to the Bonnes Mares Grand Cru. Still aromatically lifted, with pretty red berry fruit aromas, leather, and earth.
Paired at Alinea with barbecued rabbit with heirloom beans, rabbit truffle, and wojapi (a Native American berry sauce). The fruit on the wine is a match for the wojapi, while the structure and secondary flavors match well with the gamey aspect of the rabbit.
