Bollinger "James Bond 007 Special Edition" Blanc de Noirs 2011
While the marketing tie-in is obvious, as Bollinger has been the Champagne choice of James Bond since 1973’s Live and Let Die, the wine itself is still delicious.
The special 007 release from the 2011 vintage was meant to coincide with the release of No Time to Die, the currently unreleased film starring Daniel Craig (and his last as Bond). It is 100% Pinot Noir and all of the fruit is from the Grand Cru village of Aÿ.
This is a powerful Champagne, with notes of citrus, plum, and toast. It was paired with golden ossetra caviar, toasted white sesame yogurt, and spring onion. The richness of the wine complements the sesame yogurt, and the acidity and effervescence have always been a natural match to caviar.
